Summer 2017: Gretel (7) and Hansel (10) are sent to summer camp for the first time. It’s the end of camp and time to go home. They watch other kids get picked up by their family, but no one shows up for the siblings. They call home but no one picks up the phone.
You realize Hansel and Gretel’s parents are not coming in time to pick them up. Hansel doesn't seem to trust you but Gretel is one of your best and brightest students. The children are hungry, tired, and desparate to leave. You live in a cottage just a short walk from camp.
Do you:
* [[Ask the kids what they want to eat, then go to the supermarket and shop for dinner.->Supermarket]]
* [[Leave the kids to entertain themselves at the camp playground while you make dinner.->Playground]]

You realize your parents aren’t going to come get you. Gretel is getting hungry and you know she wants to leave. She wants to ask James Olive for help but you are suspicious of him. You want to try to get home by walking through the woods, but you can’t leave Gretel.

They watch other kids get picked up by their family, but no one shows up for the siblings. They call home but no one picks up the phone.
You look at Hansel because he always seems to know what to do. He is suspicious of the camp counselor, James Olive, and doesn’t want to go to him for help. Instead, he thinks you should try to walk home through the woods.

Soon you're fast asleep. When you wake up, Gretel is helping James with an instagram post for his latest recipe. Being well fed and feeling the warmth of the cottage, you start to forget you were waiting for your parents.

What do //you// eat for dinner?

You start to wonder, where will the kids sleep if their parents still don't come for them after dinner?
* [[The basement->Children are food]]
* [[The spare room->Children substitute]]The plan you've come up with is working! Gretel is starting to ask questions about why you are posting daily photos of Hansel's plump fingers onto your secret recipe website on the dark web. But with just one more day of feeding him gourmet fatty foods, he will be perfect for your signature recipe: Slow-roasted child flank with butter, sage, and garlic.
You are having Gretel roast a pig in your fire pit while you insist Hansel rests. Gretel says she has a question about enclosing the pit for the smokey flavor you taught her about.
You:
* [[Ignore her, it's a trap.->Ignore]]
* [[Go help, you don't want to meal to be ruined->Roast Pig]]Nobody knows that you have been working on a plant-based edible substitute that tastes just like children, your favorite food. Compelled by the intense guilt of killing children to eat them, you have decided to take your bio-design and culinary skills to create an alternative, while still enjoying that unique and incredible taste you love.
You want Gretel's help but are nervous about what the children will do if they know your secret.
* [[Tell Gretel your secret and ask for her help->Tell Gretel]]
* [[Use the children to test your product->Experiments]]
You tell James: "I promised my parents they could try my sourdough bread but I forgot to make it. They are waiting outside for me...let me go tell them I didn’t make anything."
Hansel runs out while James processes what Hansel said. Hansel grabs Gretel by the arm and sprint out the camp. Before they walk too far away, they want to make sure they know their way back to the camp so they decided to leave pieces of the gluten free bread that they don't want to eat anyway, as trace to make their way back...
After some time walking, you realize you haven't passed any houses, or police, or people.
* [[Find your way back to camp using the breadcrumbs->Lost]]
* [[Scavenge for food using your culinary camp skills->Poison]]The breadcrumbs were eaten by wild animals!
There is no way to return home.
End.Gretel is horrified but wants to help you with your strange problem, and help children like her and Hansel that might be eaten otherwise.
She has the idea of using small amounts of her DNA to create lab-grown Gretel flesh.
<img src="https://img.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_742w/2010-2019/WashingtonPost/2013/08/05/Food/Images/ARP3610761.jpg?uuid=GLjLxv37EeKXETcIMQ9vTQ" width="500" height="300" alt="Lab-grown meat">
It's not quite the real thing but very close. You decide:
* [[The substitute will never be good enough and is taking too long...->Children are food]]
* [[Gretel's done a good job--you never have to kill again. -> Famous]]
You need some way to conduct quality control of your products. Hansel could be your test subject--comparing this real child flesh to your child meat substitute is a good way to perfect your alternative recipe.
But you are still overcome with guilt.
[[You decide Hansel will serve as your test subject.->Children are food]]
[[You decide to confess to Gretel and ask for help.->Tell Gretel]]The next day Gretel shrieks and cries as she finds Roasted Hansel next to the pulled pork she fed him on his last day alive.
The golden brown roasted Hansel with garden-grown fingerling potatoes is your most popular blog post yet, with 12 million hits.
End.You scream as Gretel pushes you into the pit with such force, that you only have time to be surprised at the strength of this small child as your skin and eyes burn to a crisp.
End.Your child-meat substitute is a market success. You and the children are beyond rich and eating very well.

End.Down in the basement, you notice something is not right. The smell is fishy and it is too cold. You finally find the basement light switch and turn it on.
There are a number of freezers locked up with chains, you find one that was not locked. When you open it, you find the cheesecake James was talking about.
Out of curiosity you try to unlock one of the freezers and what you see terrifies you...
* [[Go back upstairs to find Gretel->Stay with Gretel]]
* [[You come up with a plan to deal with James.->James]]
With James occupied, Gretel tells you she found out about James’s secret drive to eat children. But she has a plan: she will try to use the culinary science she learned at camp to regenerate her limbs. She's gotten to a point in her experiments where she needs your help. She wants you to cut off one of her fingers to see if she can successfully grow it back.
* [[Okay, I'll help you.->Regenerate]]
* [[No, we need to escape.->James]]$ending
End.You cut off one of your sister's fingers to help with her experiments. She screams and cries and bleeds but she is so grateful to you that you don't know what to feel.
After just one day, her finger grows back. You are both so excited that you can save children with this new technology!
When you tell James about your accomplishment, you realize he is excited for a different reason: he begins plans to harvest children's limbs next year at camp.
End.James shows you how to use instagram, and some of the posts he is most proud of: chocolate pudding, butterfinger cookies, and stewed belly.
He also shows your wordpress and leaves you alone at the computer with some of his most recent photos and a list of recipe tips to blog about. You quickly get bored because James talked about most of the material at camp.
Snooping on the desktop, you glace at an open window tabs and something catches your eye.

James calls out, "Can you come over here for a second, Hansel?"
When Hansel appears, he seems more plump than you remember. "See, he's right here. Why don’t you both start getting familiar with the blogging system?"

You find James' research on creating a lab-grown meat substitute, but as you keep reading you realize, he's talking about children!
You are interested in experimenting since this was some of your favorite work at camp, but you are scared. What would James do if he found out you saw his work?
* [[Approach James and offer to help with his research->Famous]]
* [[Escape->Escape]]You remember hearing a news broadcast about missing person records. Children under the age of 18 account for 40% of the missing population. You're 7 and a perfect target!
You think about how you are far out in the middle of nowhere, with only James and your 10 year old brother. James is dangerous and you need to escape! James is in the other room when he calls Hansel over. You hear Hansel approaching the kitchen and are concerned--you don't want to leave without him!
* [[Leave alone -> Run]]
* [[Go to the kitchen to find Hansel -> Kitchen]]Seeing all the photos of Hansel's fingers in a row, you realize that they have been getting fatter and fatter each day. You are starting to get nervous about what this means. Maybe Hansel was right--you can't trust James!
You have an idea that you think might appease James and save your and Hansel's lives: you can use the culinary science from camp to regenerate his fingers if they get cut off.
* [[Approach James and tell him about your research->Fingers]]
* [[Escape->Escape]]James loves your idea!
After months of work, your child-meat substitute is a market success. You are all beyond rich and eating very well.

End.You run and run but you have nothing to find your way, and no way to connect to the outside world.
After some time, you are both hungry again. You and Gretel decide to venture through the wild and collect whatever you can eat. After gathering white berries, yellow flowers, and brown mushrooms, you have a filling dinner.
Unfortunately, you didn't learn about poisonous foods at camp.
End.James is excited about your research and you are hopeful this means you and Hansel will escape with your lives.
You soon realize you've given James the justification he needed to cut Hansel's fingers off! James doesn't stop there, and butchers Hansel at the wrist. You scream and cry as James sautees his hand and makes soup with his fingernails. Hansel faints and bleeds in the corner with his stump.
Thankfully by the end of the week his hand has grown back. But James harvests meat from Hansel's plump limbs whenever he wants. And it's your fault.
End.You are lost in the middle of nowhere with no way to connect to the outside world. After finishing the rest of the sourdough bread, you are still hungry.
You and Gretel decide to venture through the wild and collect whatever you can eat. After gathering white berries, yellow flowers, and brown mushrooms, you have a filling dinner.
Unfortunately, you didn't learn about poisonous foods at camp.
End.You run into the woods alone, heartbroken and filled with guilt for abandoning Hansel.
You walk all night but cannot find your way. Lost, with no means to communicate with the outside world, and missing Hansel terribly, you remember warnings from camp about poisonous foods.
You collect whatever white berries, yellow flowers, and brown mushrooms, you have a filling last meal.
Wandering around, you finally stumble across a small town. The ads on Link show James' new cooking show. This is the last thing you see before you die.
End.You scream as see Hansel leaning into the oven. You quickly grab him but you see James is holding a knife. He pushes you both into the oven, where you suffer the same fate as so many campers before and after you.
End.
